The flies stunlock you when they hit you. Might as well have 1 HP. EDIT: Oh, it's the shadow mechanic (you can only shoot from shadows). It's more of a nuisance than a challenge.

Yes, you can only shoot from the shadows. In the beggining of the game in the main menu there is a "how to" button that is a "toturial" ( just an image that explains the basic story, controls and the shadow mechanic ).
